The file is a commonly used file on our network. It is on the file server and there is not a temp file (as stated you need to change the default view options so you see hidden, system files and the like to really SEE all the files). Again, the server sees it as open and no temp file is there. I went into Control Panel > Administrator Tools > Share and Storage Management > Manage Open Files (on the far right). The user that supposedly had it open did not. However another user did have it open. Active Directory is still run by a Windows Server 2003 server. One user (currently using Office for Mac 2011) recently tried to access a Word document on the file server, but was notified that the file was locked for editing by another user. The problem is that she's the only one who accesses the file. ![]() They closed it and all is well. I did not force it closed but that is an option. I just realized this thread was answered and you are having this same problem - probably should have started a new thread and referenced this one as a similar issue (but not the same as you have already tried it right)? Receive notification when the original copy is available I usually select the last option and wait a minute or two and then receive a message when I can change my access from read only to read/write. However, this is inconvenient partly because the 'another user' error dialog box almost always ends up displaying underneath the explorer window I am using to open the documents since I usually am opening several related documents at the same time. There is no indication the dialog box is there until I try to open another Word document and receive a message I must close an open dialog box, etc. Once I dig around and find the open dialog box, I can respond to receive notification when the original copy is available.
